Tempus Edax. Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare, Ireland
July 2010
Turf and Lime Mortar
23'x3'x10
This memorial form, located on the grounds of the Burren College of Art in Ballyvaughan, Ireland was constructed from hand cut turf from a bog in Co. Clare. The structure was filled with native soil and acorns from Killarney National Park, the only remaining stands of the old growth oak forests that previously covered eighty percent of Ireland. Deforestation by successive entities have left the Burren with an austere beauty that belies its past. Time and the elements eventually caused the structure to collapse and allow the transported oaks to begin growing, possibly to repopulate the area with elements of its botanical past.
